How this is worked out
- Each camera is one run from the rack to the camera position. The service loop is counted twice per run — a little at the camera and a little at the rack, for termination and future repairs.
- Wastage covers offcuts, mistakes and the bends that always turn out longer than the drawing. 10% is normal on a clean site; 15–20% on an old building.
- Cable is sold in 305 m boxes, so the figure is rounded up to whole boxes.
- Two RJ45 connectors per run, plus 10% spare, because a crimp that fails is cheaper to redo than to argue about.
- Ethernet is specified to 90 m of solid cable plus 10 m of patch leads. Anything longer needs fibre, an extender or a switch in between.
