How this is worked out
- One camera recording at 1 Mbps writes about 0.45 GB an hour, so a day of recording is bitrate × hours × 0.45 GB.
- The resolution list uses typical H.265 bitrates on a normal scene. H.264 is taken as 1.9× those figures; a busy scene with movement and IR at night runs higher.
- Motion recording is counted as a share of the day, because nothing records while the scene is still. A roadside or shop-floor camera triggers far more than a store room.
- Disk space is counted after formatting: a 4 TB disk gives about 3.72 TB of usable space, so 93% is allowed for.
- Cameras are assumed to record continuously at the same settings. Mixed systems are best worked out in groups and added up.
